This is a terrible tragedy. Home construction and adverse conditions make structural fire a very dangerous and unpredictable circumstance. There are fire departments that are purchasing things like FireDrake Mobile Monitors, which is an industrial ROV that will go into an unsafe structure and keep firefighters safe. it can operate from a distance, enter standard doorways and climb stairs. I saw a demo in our area and we were sold. There isn't a lot of companies that know about them yet, but our county has applied for an AFG to get two for our regional hazmat...It's a very durable and good tool to have available. Our use would be more toward hazmat or industrial fire but it definitely is designed to do about anything.
